What is the Windfall Mod?

Windfall is a very large mod. It takes place on its own Island. There is a large new city on the island, as well as several smaller areas, a number of dungeons and locations to explore. There are several new groups on the Island, some are joinable. Some new armor and weapons, some of which can be seen on our web site. In all there are about 50 quests spread out over the various story lines. One of things we like the most about the mod is the way the story lines are handled. Especially the main story line. There are numerous outcomes. Much of it depends upon the player’s actions and choices throughout the mod.

What about the town?

It is a complete town: numerous shops, a castle, residential buildings, etc. Although not as large, the town is divided into a few sections like the Imperial City. Each section is controlled by a different group. Like a lot of things in the mod, the attitudes of the different groups toward the player will depend upon the players choices and actions.

What else is on the island?

The Island is large. There are several distinct areas. There is most more on the island than just the town. The town is by far the largest area on the island. But there are several other groups that inhabit the island. Some nice, some not so nice. And of course a collection of caves and ruins to be explored.

What files are in the download?

The download is a zip file that contains 5 files:

Windfall.esm
Windfall.esp
Windfall.bsa
Windfall_Readme.txt
Windfall_map.jpg

The Windfall.esm, Windfall.esp, and Windfall.bsa must be in Oblivions Data Folder.

The Windfall.esm, and Windfall.esp must be checked in the Data Files.

The Windfall_Readme.txt is our readme.

The Windfall_Map.jpg is a map of our island.

How big are the files?

The download is about 70M.

We packed all the resource files into a BSA to conserve space. Left in that files, the total space taken by all the files should be around 100M.

If you unpack the BSA they will take slightly over 1G of hard drive space.

Does this conflict with other mods?

Don't know. We did everything we could to prevent conflicts with other mods. The LOD was made order independent, thanks to Sandor, to help prevent conflicts. One of our Beta testers checked the mod against the 200 she normally uses and reported no conflicts.

However, given the size of the mod, and the number of mods available there is no way to guarantee it is conflict free.

In addition, there are no compatibility packages for this mod. Some may get developed, if needed, but we are new.

How long to play through the mod?

One Beta Tester (Katnap) reported that her save game listed 33 hours of play. She only played through the stories. She did not do the misc quests, nor any free lance dungeon exploration. 35 - 40 hours of gameplay should be realistic.

Is there voice acting?

No.

Will there be?

If someone can put together the people and talent needed to take on such a task, you have my blessing. I will help and support such an undertaking, but I have been unable to assemble such a team. And quite honestly, right now I am a bit burned out. But you want to try it, let me know. I’ll get you forum space and offer any assistance that I can.

Can I add on to, expand, or enhance this mod?

Be my guest. From what I understand, once the LOD was made independent the esm that was distributed cannot be used for modding. But if this is something you want to do, contact me and I’ll get you the modable files.

Note that I will only support versions that I release. If you create something on your own, I offer help, but you’ll need to support it.

Can I use the Models, Meshes, or Textures?

I had nothing to do with making these files other than request them. I cannot give you permission to use someone else’s work. All I can do is pass a request on to the creator.

Anything else?

Yes, I first started working on the story for this mod in June of 2005, about nine months before the game was actually released. During the 3 ½ years this mod was in development, a lot of good people did a lot of hard work to help make this mod what it is. A complete list of people that were involved is listed in our Credits topic. If you like this mod, these people deserve a Thank you.

Finally, I think I can speak for everyone when I say:

We hope you enjoy playing Windfall.

We have high hopes to have a Beta out by the end of November. Quest creation is almost finished. We have a few details to work out after that.

We are stuck on a few needed models and textures and absolutely no one to do them. If you are readiing this, can do this type of work, please contact me:

Beta testing is close to finishing. I expect to have a release version out shortly - one, maybe two weeks.
